Arizona shooter made previous death threats known to sheriff's office involving persons other than Giffords-Reuters

He succeeded in killing people after giving notice to the sheriff's office of his intention to do so. As someone said, if the case had been handled correctly, at minimum he would not have been able to buy an automatic weapon (as should be the case with all persons on record as having made multiple death threats).

Sheriff Clarence Dupnik of Pima County, where the shooting happened, told reporters the suspect had a troubled past. "All I can tell you is that this person may have a mental issue," Dupnik said.

Dupnik said there had been earlier contact between Loughner and law enforcement

although they had not been against Giffords."...
