Media hype and vitriol rewarded as death threat is made by leftist to a Tea Party member at Arizona ABC News show taping

.
1/15/11, "Figures, Charles Johnson's crackpot hero arrested for threatening to kill Tea Party Leader on national TV," Gateway Pundit by Jim Hoft

From Gateway Pundit:

"Yesterday Charles Johnson was praising this far left crackpot for blaming conservatives for the Tuscon shootings.
  • (One more time: The tea party had nothing to do with the shootings. The shooter was an insane left-wing pothead.)

Flash Forward 24 Hours—"

Today the same guy who blamed persons on the right (with no evidence) "was arrested and charged with with threats and intimidation and disorderly conduct"

Fuller will undergo a psychiatric evaluation."...

Here is how the AP frames the story, first with its headline, and second with the first line of its story. It wants you off the 'political rhetoric' since the perp was a leftist, and goes straight to the psychiatric angle:

If the perp were a conservative, the headline would likely read:

  • 1/15/11, "Death threat and menacing by right wing man arrested at Arizona gathering to discuss national crisis said to be connected to Sarah Palin," AP
First sentence from AP's actual story:

Phoenix, "One of the Arizona shooting victims was arrested Saturday and then taken for a psychiatric evaluation after authorities said he took a picture of a tea party leader at televised town hall meeting and yelled: "you're dead.""...

The 'you're dead' part would likely have appeared in the headline or first line had the perp's political persuasion been different.
